AS Roma marked their Serie A campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Fiorentina at Stadio Olimpico, with Dusan Vlahovic's stand-in Danyil Malen delivering a clinical hat-trick that underlined the hosts' firepower on opening day.
The tone was set early. In the 27th minute, Lorenzo Pellegrini's long ball found its way to Malen, who slotted home with composure after a perfectly weighted through pass from Paulo Dybala, whose creative influence would define the half. Fiorentina struggled to contain Roma's fluid front three, and their frustration bubbled over when Nicolo Fagioli collected a caution in the 30th minute for dissent after a VAR check.
AS Roma doubled their advantage just before halftime, with Malen again the beneficiary of Dybala's vision. With twelve minutes remaining, Roma's pressure told once more. A sustained period of possession ended with a cross from the right, and substitute Nicolo Pisilli pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box to slot home the fourth goal, capping off a night of relentless attacking football.
The referee, Matteo Marcenaro, brought a tight but fair game to its conclusion, with only minor fouls disrupting the flow. AS Roma's 3-4-2-1 formation allowed them to dominate possession and exploit the spaces behind Fiorentina's 4-3-2-1 setup.
For Fiorentina, the result offered little consolation. Their defensive frailties and inability to generate meaningful chances against a resolute Roma backline will need urgent addressed before their next fixture.
