Brentford send defender Richard Stevenson to Crewe on loan
The 18-year-old joins the EFL club as part of his development pathway.
Brentford have confirmed the departure of young defender Richard Stevenson, who has joined Crewe Alexandra on loan until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old, a product of Brentford's academy system, will gain valuable senior experience in EFL League Two with the Railwaymen.
Stevenson came through the ranks at Brentford and made a small number of appearances for the club's development sides, but has yet to feature in a first-team matchday squad.
Crewe manager David Artell has been looking to add defensive depth to his squad as they push for promotion from League Two, and the loan market has provided the solution.
The move gives Stevenson his first taste of regular senior football, with Crewe currently competing in the fourth tier of English football.
Brentford technical director Phil Giles said the loan was a natural step in the player's progression, adding that gaining experience away from the club was important for his development.
Stevenson will wear the number 18 shirt at Crewe and is available for selection in their upcoming fixtures.
The loan deal includes a provision for the player to return to Brentford in January should the club require additional defensive cover.
Crewe confirmed the signing on their official website, describing Stevenson as someone who brings energy and composure to the back line.
The EFL has approved the transfer, which was completed before the summer window closed.
Stevenson is expected to train with his new teammates immediately and could make his debut in the coming weeks.
This marks another loan exit for Brentford's younger players as the club continues to rotate talent between the first team and development opportunities in the lower leagues.
