Getafe 1-0 Racing Santander: Unal's late strike seals narrow home win
Enes Unal's 81st-minute goal gave Getafe all three points at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
Getafe opened their La Liga campaign at home to Racing Santander in the second round of the Regular Season, with both sides aware that an early goal could define the contest.
The hosts, managed by Jose Bordalas Jimenez in a 3-5-2 formation, pressed forward confidently, while Racing Santander lined up in a 4-2-3-1 under coach Jose Lopez.
The deadlock was broken in the 81st minute when Enes Unal, playing for Getafe, found the back of the net to secure a crucial victory for the home side.
Referee Juan Martinez Munuera kept tight control throughout, issuing a total of four yellow cards across both teams. Jorge Salinas and Alvaro Mantilla of Racing Santander were cautioned in the opening 16 minutes, followed by Getafe's Saba Sazonov shortly after.
Seventy-two minutes passed without further goals, and Racing Santander pulled one back in the form of a yellow card for Manu Hernando in the 66th minute, though it wasn't enough to change the outcome.
Despite the late surge from the visitors, Getafe held firm to claim three points at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
After the match, Getafe sit in eighth place in La Liga with three points from two games, while Racing Santander remain in 14th position with just one point from their opening fixtures.
The win provides Getafe with momentum heading into their next fixture, whereas Racing Santander will need to regroup quickly if they hope to climb the table.
