Inter kicked off their Serie A campaign with a convincing 4-1 home victory over Monza at San Siro, setting a strong tone under coach Cristian Chivu. The hosts made an electric start when H. Calhanoglu fired home in the 6th minute, slotting in a low effort after a clever pass from A. Diouf. Monza responded with spirit, as G. Varela pulled one back for the visitors in the 29th minute, capitalising on a well-weighted ball from M. Mout to restore parity heading into the break.
The second half belonged to Inter, who retook the lead through P. Zielinski in the 48th minute with a precise strike that showcased the team's growing rhythm. Just seven minutes later, F. Esposito added the third after another incisive cross from A. Diouf, with the youngster converting confidently past the Monza keeper. Y. Bisseck rounded off the scoring in the 63rd minute, tapping in from close range after Esposito's dangerous delivery found its way into the box.
Despite the comfortable margin, the match was not without tension. Inter had L. Martinez and H. Calhanoglu booked before halftime, while Monza's E. Kouadio and L. Lucchesi received yellow cards in the latter stages as frustration mounted. Referee Livio Marinelli kept a tight grip on proceedings throughout, ensuring the game flowed smoothly despite the mounting pressure.
For Chivu, the performance will offer plenty of encouragement as his side displayed both attacking fluency and defensive composure in equal measure. The 3-5-2 formation appeared well-suited to exploiting the spaces against Monza's 3-4-3 setup, with the wing-backs providing crucial width and support.
Monza, under Ivan Juric, will reflect on a spirited first-half showing but will be disappointed by defensive lapses that cost them dearly after the break. Their inability to contain Inter's counter-pressing and sustained pressure ultimately proved decisive.
The result leaves Inter top of the early Serie A table, while Monza sit bottom following the opening round of fixtures.
