Ipswich 2-1 Sunderland: Emersonn and Clarke earn opening-day home win
Emersonn's 24th-minute opener and J. Clarke's stoppage-time winner secured Ipswich's first Premier League home victory of the season against Sunderland.

Ipswich kicked off their Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Sunderland at Portman Road Stadium, with goals from Emersonn and J. Clarke sealing all three points in a match that finished in dramatic fashion.
The hosts got off to a strong start, taking the lead in the 24th minute through Emersonn, who found the back of the net after a well-worked team move involving J. Enciso, who provided the assist. The goal gave Ipswich a crucial early advantage in front of their home supporters.

Sunderland responded just before the half-hour mark when N. Angulo pulled one back for the visitors in the 39th minute. The goal brought the scores level at 1-1 heading into halftime, setting up an intriguing second half at Portman Road.
The hosts had opportunities to restore their lead throughout the middle period but were frustrated by Sunderland goalkeeper and some tight defending. Sunderland's discipline began to fray as D. Ballard received a yellow card in the 36th minute, followed by N. Angulo in the 55th and L. O'Nien in the 63rd, all collecting bookings in the second half.
As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Ipswich thought they had won it when J. Clarke, assisted by S. Lukic, slotted the ball past the Sunderland keeper in the 90th minute. The goal sparked celebrations among the home faithful as the stadium erupted.
Despite late pressure from Sunderland, Ipswich managed to hold on for the win, with the defense standing firm in the final moments. The result marked a positive start to the season for Gary O'Neil's side, who played in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
For Sunderland, the defeat meant a missed opportunity to claim points on the road, despite showing resilience to come back from behind. Regis Le Bris' side also deployed a 4-2-3-1 setup but were left to rue their disciplinary issues and lack of cutting edge in the final third.
Referee Farai Hallam oversaw the contest, which saw Ipswich finish the day in 14th place in the Premier League table, while Sunderland sat 10th after matchweek one.
