Lille secure opening-day victory over Angers at Stade Raymond-Kopa
Lille earned three points on the road with a commanding first-half display.

Lille kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign with a solid away win at the Stade Raymond-Kopa, defeating Angers 2-0 in a match that was effectively decided before halftime.
The visitors made the breakthrough early, with Olivier Giroud finding the net in the 11th minute. Youcef Atal's cross was tucked back by Nabil Bentaleb, whose pass set up Giroud to slot home calmly past the Angers goalkeeper.
Lille doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark. In the 31st minute, Talles Santos struck with a powerful effort that left little chance for the home side, capitalizing on sustained pressure to make it 2-0.

The result meant Lille headed into the break with a comfortable cushion, and despite Angers pushing forward in the second half, they struggled to create meaningful chances against a compact and organized Lille defense.
Angers' efforts to mount a comeback were hampered by a string of yellow cards in the closing stages. Aurélien Bermont was the first to be cautioned in the 22nd minute, while Lille's Hakon Haraldsson and Romain Perraud both received bookings in quick succession around the 72nd and 74th minutes.
In the 90th minute, Ulrich Simbakoli was shown a late yellow card as Angers threw everything forward in search of a consolation goal, but Lille's defensive shape held firm.
Both coaches deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lille's Davide Ancelotti and Angers' Stéphane Gilli opting for balanced setups that emphasized structure over flair.
Referee Jérémy Stinat kept a tight rein on proceedings, ensuring the match maintained its competitive edge without descending into chaos.
The victory sees Lille move above Angers in the early Ligue 1 table, with both sides yet to register a point from open play prior to this fixture.
For Angers, the loss raises questions about their ability to cope with Lille's attacking thrust, particularly in the absence of a response after falling behind twice in the first half.
