Lyon secure opening-day victory over Toulouse with late brace
Second-half strikes from Nartey and Fofana handed Lyon a 2-0 away win on the Ligue 1 season opener.

Lyon kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign with a clinical 2-0 victory away at Toulouse, with both goals coming in the final twenty-five minutes at Stadium de Toulouse.
The hosts, coached by Jens Askou in a 4-2-3-1 setup, created little in the way of clear chances across the first half. A booking for N. Schmidt in the 31st minute summed up a frustrating evening for the home side, who went into the break level at Stade de Toulouse.

Lyon, deployed by Paulo Fonseca in a 4-3-3 formation, made their pressure count after the break. N. Nartey finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, slotting home a low cross from substitute P. Sulc to give the visitors the lead they deserved.
A second goal arrived in the 85th minute when M. Fofana capitalized on a precise through ball from C. Tolisso, dispatching calmly past the Toulouse goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Despite a flurry of late activity, including a yellow card for T. Tessmann in stoppage time, Toulouse failed to mount a meaningful response. The result left them rooted to the bottom of the early table.
For Lyon, the win provides a strong foundation after Matchday 1, sitting in third place with three points. Their composure in the final third and defensive solidity bodes well under Fonseca.
Toulouse, meanwhile, will reflect on a night where creativity and finishing both fell short. The home crowd offered little consolation as the final whistle confirmed a disappointing start to their campaign.
Referee Guillaume Paradis brought the curtain down on a match that rarely threatened to open up, with Lyon’s efficiency in the second half ultimately deciding the outcome.
