Rennes and PSG share late drama after 2-2 draw at Roazhon Park
Szymanski and Lepaul gave hosts a commanding first-half lead before Torres' brace hauled PSG level.
Rennes began their Ligue 1 campaign at home to Paris Saint Germain on a bright note, with both goalscorers finding the net inside the opening 40 minutes.
S. Szymanski opened the scoring in the 9th minute, slotting home a well-weighted pass from Adrien Thomasson to give the hosts an early advantage at Roazhon Park.
The lead was doubled in the 38th minute when E. Lepaul finished calmly after a clever touch from P. Frankowski, leaving PSG scrambling ahead of the interval.
PSG emerged from the break with renewed urgency, and their efforts paid off in the 71st minute when F. Torres pulled one back, converting a precise through ball from F. Ruiz.
With the game finely poised, Torres struck again in the 82nd minute, this time latching onto another Ruiz delivery to level the scores and spark late drama at the stadium.
Both sides had chances to win it in the closing stages, but neither could find a decisive third goal. A yellow card for Marquinhos in the 76th minute added to the tension, followed by Achraf Hakimi picking up a booking in the 84th.
Rennes also had disciplinary issues of their own, with Adrien Thomasson cautioned in the 42nd minute and Mousa Tamari picking up a late yellow in the 63rd.
The result leaves both sides with a point apiece after Matchday 1, with Rennes sitting eighth and PSG ninth in the early Ligue 1 table.
Referee Bastien Dechepy brought the contest to a close as the two sides walked away with a share of the points on a night of contrasting halves.
Franck Haise's side will feel they should have done more to hold on, while Enrique Luis will take encouragement from his team's resilience in fighting back twice at Roazhon Park.
