PSV Eindhoven 5-1 Groningen: Perisic brace and Pepi penalty fire home third straight win
Ivan Perisic struck twice and Rico Pepi converted a late first-half penalty as PSV raced to a commanding halftime lead before adding two more after the break.

PSV Eindhoven secured their third consecutive victory across all competitions with a dominant 5-1 triumph over FC Groningen at the Philips Stadion on Saturday afternoon. From the opening moments, Peter Bosz's side asserted their authority, capitalizing on early defensive lapses from the visitors.
The match burst to life in the ninth minute when Groningen's Benjamin Willumsson, assisted by T. van Bergen, opened the scoring for the away side. However, the lead lasted barely two minutes as Groningen defender T. Blokzijl turned the ball into his own net, leveling the contest and shifting momentum decisively toward the hosts.

Ivan Perisic restored PSV's advantage in the 35th minute with a clinical finish, sending the home crowd into raptures ahead of halftime. The drama wasn't over yet, though, as referee Allard Lindhout awarded PSV a penalty in stoppage time. Rico Pepi stepped up and converted coolly, giving the hosts a commanding 3-1 cushion as they headed into the break.
The second half belonged entirely to PSV. Perisic doubled his own account in the 53rd minute, this time capitalizing on a precisely weighted pass from Mauro Junior. Three minutes later, Sergiño Dest extended the lead further, finishing off a sweeping move orchestrated by Ryan van Bommel, who had earlier received a yellow card in the 21st minute.
Groningen, managed by Dick Lukkien in a 4-2-3-1 formation, struggled to mount any meaningful response despite showing resilience. Their efforts were further hampered when Mattis Csinger picked up a late yellow card in the 45th minute plus two seconds of added time.
By full time, PSV Eindhoven's 4-3-3 system had overwhelmed Groningen's midfield structure, with the hosts' attacking fluidity proving too much for a depleted Groningen defense. The victory lifts PSV to five points from their opening two fixtures, sitting fifth in the Eredivisie table.
Groningen, meanwhile, remain second in the standings with six points, though Saturday's heavy defeat will undoubtedly raise questions ahead of their next outing. For now, PSV's clinical efficiency and relentless pressing will serve as a stark warning to the rest of the league.
The result underscores PSV's renewed title ambitions under Bosz, with goals flowing freely and defensive solidity returning to Philips Stadion. As the Eredivisie campaign enters its fourth round, all eyes will be on whether this PSV side can maintain such intensity against tougher opposition.
