Fenerbahçe dominate Konyaspor 4-2 at Chobani Stadium
Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood scores twice as Fenerbahçe secure a commanding victory in their Süper Lig home opener.
Fenerbahçe kicked off their Süper Lig Regular Season - 2 campaign with a commanding 4-2 victory over Konyaspor at the Chobani Stadium in Istanbul. The match, officiated by Atilla Karaoglan, saw the hosts establish a comfortable lead by halftime thanks to a flurry of early goals.
The action started quickly, with Fenerbahçe taking the lead in the 7th minute through V. Muriqi. Just three minutes later, Konyaspor responded through E. Colley, with Y. Andzouana providing the assist. However, Fenerbahçe regained control before the half-hour mark as M. Greenwood scored in the 20th minute.
M. Asensio extended the home side's advantage in the 33rd minute, capitalizing on a clever pass from Greenwood. Fenerbahçe entered the break with a commanding 3-1 lead, with coach Ismail Kartal's side having done most of the damage in the opening half.
The second half continued in similar fashion for Fenerbahçe, as Greenwood netted his second of the evening in the 49th minute, this time benefiting from a pass by Muriqi. Despite being behind, Konyaspor showed resilience and pulled one back in the 90th minute through D. Turuc.
Konyaspor's efforts were hampered late in the first half when both Deniz Türüç and Adil Demirbağ received yellow cards in stoppage time. Enis Bardhi added another booking for the visitors in the 61st minute, but it wasn't enough to change the outcome.
Both teams lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Fenerbahçe's Ismail Kartal and Konyaspor's Ilhan Palut watching from the touchline. The result leaves Fenerbahçe in sixth place in the standings with three points from two matches, while Konyaspor sit 17th with no points after two games.
For Konyaspor, the defeat marks a disappointing start to their campaign, particularly given their inability to contain Fenerbahçe's attacking threat. The visitors will need to regroup quickly if they hope to climb out of the relegation zone.
Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, can build momentum from this strong performance. With Greenwood and Muriqi leading the line effectively, they look well-equipped to compete at the top end of the table this season.
The win provides a solid foundation for Fenerbahçe as they continue their Regular Season campaign, while Konyaspor must address several areas if they are to avoid another difficult season.
