Marseille dominant 4-0 face Strasbourg in Ligue 1 opener
Marseille secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Strasbourg in their Ligue 1 Regular Season opener at the CEPAC Vélodrome.

Marseille kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Strasbourg at the CEPAC Vélodrome on a Friday evening.
The match referee Ruddy Buquet oversaw a tightly contested first half, with both teams failing to find the net despite chances at either end. Marseille’s Bruno Genesio and Strasbourg’s Hugo Oliveira watched on as the deadlock remained unbroken heading into the break.

The second half burst to life in the 46th minute when Amine Gouiri struck the opening goal for Marseille, capitalising on an assist from André Gomes. Just two minutes later, Strasbourg’s Souleymane Amo-Ameyaw picked up a yellow card, adding pressure to the visitors.
Marseille doubled their lead in the 68th minute through a clinical penalty converted by Gouiri, sending the home crowd into raptures. However, the joy was short-lived for Strasbourg as Sofiane El Mourabet saw red in the 59th minute, leaving his side with ten men to chase the game.
Despite being reduced to ten, Strasbourg continued to push forward, with Said Benrahma testing the Marseille defence on occasion. Their efforts were rewarded with a yellow card for Nayef Aguerd of Marseille in the 79th minute, as tensions rose in the closing stages.
With momentum firmly on their side, Marseille extended their lead in the 89th minute through Karim Abdallah, whose powerful strike sealed the result. The night was rounded off in dramatic fashion in the 96th minute when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg added a fourth goal, capping off a memorable evening for the home supporters.
Strasbourg will reflect on a difficult afternoon, particularly their disciplinary issues with three cards handed out. Marseille, meanwhile, can build on this strong start as they look ahead to their next fixture.
Both sides deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Genesio’s tactical approach proving more effective on the day. The result sets a positive tone for Marseille as they aim to compete at the top of the Ligue 1 table this season.
