Chicago Fire took the lead in the 38th minute through M. Haile-Selassie, who found the back of the net with a normal goal that counted for the visitors. V. Radojevic provided the assist for the opening score.

The hosts responded in the 85th minute when C. Harper scored a normal goal for New York, with E. M. Choupo-Moting picking up the assist. The goal proved crucial in securing a share of the points.
