Taiwo Awoniyi transfer: Nottingham Forest attacker joins Coventry
The forward departs the City Ground in a deal announced on 16 August 2026.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of Taiwo Awoniyi, with the forward completing a transfer to Coventry. The deal was announced on 16 August 2026, bringing an end to his spell at the City Ground.
Awoniyi, who joined Forest in 2022, made 85 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, scoring 18 goals. His most prolific season came in 2023/24, where he netted 11 times in 36 Championship matches, helping Forest secure a playoff place.
The Nigeria international had been linked with a move away from Forest throughout the summer transfer window. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo had indicated earlier in pre-season that squad rotation would be key, with several attacking options available.

Coventry City confirmed the signing on their official website, welcoming Awoniyi to the Ricoh Arena. The Sky Blues have been active in the transfer market, adding depth to their attacking options ahead of the new EFL Championship season.
Awoniyi's arrival at Coventry reunites him with manager Mark Robins, who has built a reputation for developing forwards in the English Football League. The club has been seeking additional firepower following the departure of several key players in recent months.
The transfer represents a significant coup for Coventry, who have moved quickly to secure the signature of a proven goalscorer at this level. Awoniyi's experience in both the Premier League and Championship adds quality to their squad.
Forest's decision to allow Awoniyi to leave comes as they continue to reshape their attacking lineup. The club has already brought in two new forwards during the current transfer window, suggesting a shift in tactical direction under their new management.
No transfer fee was disclosed by either club, in line with both organizations' policy regarding undisclosed terms. The deal is subject to medical clearance and international clearance, with Awoniyi expected to be available for selection in Coventry's opening fixtures.
Awoniyi is set to undergo a medical examination with Coventry later this week, completing the formalities of his transfer. He is expected to be handed the number nine shirt, with the club confirming his registration in the coming days.
The forward will join up with his new teammates for training on Thursday, with Coventry manager Mark Robins confirming that Awoniyi is already familiar with the tactical setup. His presence is anticipated to strengthen the squad ahead of their Championship campaign.
Forest supporters reacted emotionally to the news of Awoniyi's departure, with many taking to social media to thank the forward for his contributions during his three-year tenure at the City Ground.
